Spending of Indian Students for Overseas Education will Touch US$ 70 Billion By 2025

An estimated US$47 billion was spent directly on education abroad by Indian students by 2022. Based on current growth rates, it is estimated that by 2025, the total amount spent on Tuition Fees along with Housing and other Living Expenditures could reach up to US$70 billion.

As per various surveys and university anecdotes Indian overseas student strength was 1 million in 2019 and is expected to reach between 1.5 to 2 million by 2025 with current pace of growth. The Big 4 Countries – Canada, USA, UK, and Australia are major destinations accounting for about 850000 Indian Students in 2023 and a value of US$ 34 billion through these students.

A larger choice of locations for Indian students may be influenced by concerns about affordability and the requirement for financial support. Though the  Big 4 Destinations are still quite popular, number of other study destinations like Germany, France, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore, Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan, Philippines, and UAE  are becoming popular among Indian students.

Lack of Educational Infrastructure compared to the population, outdated teaching methods & syllabus, lack of practical training, and limited work opportunities with continuously increasing living cost in India are major reasons for Indian students to move abroad in search of top quality education.
